Summer Opportunities
Competitive colleges and majors are looking for students that continue to pursue their passion and enrich their minds. Although there's never a guarantee on getting into any selective college/universities, they do look at your involvement in summer enrichment programs favorably. Summer tans come and go but great experiences will stay with you forever. These summer programs are not endorsed by Del Oro High School.

Boston University Summer Term High School Programs - Students can earn some college credit, engage in research, take non-credit seminars or spend a week becoming familiar with college life. California State Summer School for Math and Science (COSMOS) - An intense, experiential four-week summer learning program for talented high school students interested in science and math. Students from 9th to rising 12 graders will work side-by-side with distinguished university researchers and faculty members, taking part in laboratory and field work with current research at the University of California. Students can apply to four UC's based on their interest. UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine and UC San Diego. Check website for application deadline and eligibility.
Cancer/Neuroscience Workshop at the Rosetta Institute of Biomedical Research - An advanced class for high achieving high school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or related fields, such as pharmacy, nursing, biomedical research or drug development. Workshops are offered at UC Berkeley, UCLA and Yale University, check the website for dates and cost. Check website for application deadline and eligibility.
Carnegie Mellon University Summer Pre-College Programs - Get a jump start on your future. The pre-college program is for junior and seniors that are interested in having an enriching summer in one of their six programs. Check website for application deadline and eligibility.
ChicanoLatino Youth Leadership Project - Program participants attend powerful workshops and seminars that will enhance leadership skills, academic preparedness, self-esteem, cultural awareness, and provide an understanding of state and local government. Travel, Housing and meals are provided, Cost is free to all participants. Deadline for application is May 6, 2015.
Cornell University Summer College - Experience the excitement of college life at a great Ivy League university and earn 3- 6 credits in courses with Cornell Faculty. Students can choose from several pre-college programs ranging from Architecture and Art to Veterinary Medicine. Check website for application deadline and eligibility.
Duke University Summer Session - Learn, play and discover. Duke University is looking for high school students that are seekers of knowledge and want to experience the academic side of college. This program is also a time to get to know other high school students from all over through residential activities and excursions. Learn what it's like to be a college students. Lyly Engineering Camp at Southern Methodist University - The Lyle School of Engineering at SMU offers summer camp programs for students in 7th through 12th grades. Camps provide a creative environment for students to learn and apply their knowledge. Check website for application deadline and eligibility.
Naval Academy Summer Seminar - Week-long program at Annapolis for rising seniors to experience life as a Midshipman and learn more about the Naval Academy.

BioE Summer Immersion- Students will learn the basics of bioengineering and engineering design principles from our world-renowned research faculty
Experiential Entrepreneurship- Immersive business incubator "bootcamp" program providing hands-on experience in a world-class environment for entrepreneurs
NYU High School Academy - A one-week, professionally oriented intensive program of study that allow students to explore career options and to gain the competitive edge when applying to college. Study options include: City Planning, College 101 (planning and preparation), Screenwriting: Visual Story Telling, Digital Journalism, Finance NYC and much more. Oxford Advanced Studies Program - Students who are interested in studying abroad over the summer. Credits cannot be applied to your high school transcript but this is a great program for students who are interested in applying to highly competitive colleges. Sacramento State Summer Academies for High School Students - Sac State College of Continuing Education provides high school students with unique opportunity to explore various career paths during one-week, specialized courses while being introduced to the college experience. SAME - The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) offers an Engineering/STEM camp designed for high school students who excel in math, science and technology courses and are interested in pursuing engineering, architecture, or a related field in college or a military service academy. This one week camp is high energy and hands-on for students from across the country and around the world. The camp is lead by a professional staff of engineers from both private industry, the Air Force, other uniformed military services, USAFA cadets and college students from across the country. Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies - Stanford offers 3 different programs for high school students that involve intensive study, possible undergraduate course credit, and opportunities to take courses in a variety of subject areas, including music. UC Davis Young Scholars Program - This program is a six-week program, where rising junior and rising seniors will have the opportunity to do original research in biology and the natural science at UC Davis. Participants will work one-on-one with research faculty and research group in state-of-the-art laboratories. Students will also experience the climate and culture of living and working on a university campus.
UCLA Summer Sessions- UCLA offers high school students two ways to engage in challenging academics while earning college credit. Over 100 courses in 50 subject areas are open to high school students. Check website for more information.
University of Nevada-Reno's Lake Tahoe Music Camp - Student musicians are invited to participate in a week of music-making fun in Lake Tahoe. Students will have the opportunity to participate in concert bands, jazz bands, camp choir and a variety of wind and percussion chamber ensembles. The camp fee is $550 which includes all meals and housing. Space is limited; registrations are accepted as first-come, first-served. Check website for application deadline and eligibility.
Washington University in St. Louis - Explore all facets of college life in their High School Summer Scholars Program. Available for current sophomores, juniors and seniors. Choose from two enrollment options and over 40 different undergraduate courses in Foreign languages, Humanities, Math an Science, Social Science and Pre-professional studies.
