Web Design & Web Publishing
This course curriculum is an introduction to the design, creation, and maintenance of web pages and websites. With it, you will learn how to critically evaluate website quality; learn how to create and maintain quality web pages; learn about web design standards and why they're important; and learn to create and manipulate images.
Goal
The goal of this course is to present an overview of the the web publishing industry with plenty of hands-on projects. Students should gain confidence and understanding in a variety of communication situations and web design languages.
Course Objectives
You will gain the skills and project-based experience needed for entry into web design and development careers.
You will be able to use a variety of strategies and tools to create websites.
You will develop awareness and appreciation of the many ways that people access the web, and will be able to create standards-based websites that can be accessed by the full spectrum of web access technologies.
Course Overview
The course is organized into the following eleven units. Each unit is further organized into modules, and each module includes one or more lessons. Most units include a unit project which helps you demonstrate your masters of that unit. All units conclude with a unit test.

ELOs (Essential Learning Objectives)
ELO#1: Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of HTML coding and basic website design, by creating a basic website using proper design aesthetics and web coding.
ELO#2: Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of using Adobe Photoshop to create web-friendly graphics and basic webpages, by creating a basic website using proper design aesthetics and Adobe Photoshop CC.
ELO#3: Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of Javascript coding and basic website design aesthetics, by creating a basic website using proper design aesthetics and web coding.
ELO#4: Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of web design, project management and working with clients by producing a “real-world” website for a real client. This is the culminating project in the course.
Grades
Evaluation will cover class work, pre, actual, and post production activities, critiques, field work and teamwork, critical evaluations and reviews and class participation/attendance. Here's the general breakdown:
10% Attendance and Participation – This category is a rolling grade on a 100 point scale. Each student begins the term with 100 points and if a student is absent, tardy or off task for any reason they will lose up to ten points for that day. Make-up opportunities will be offered throughout the term.
30% Journals/Classwork/Quizzes/Unit Tests - Class discussions, daily written reflections, etc.
50% Projects – Group and Individual video and storytelling assignments
10% Final Exam –This can make or break your grade. Make it count.
