Characters are the actors that drive stories, plays and many poems forward. As readers and viewers, we follow characters across the plot and watch them either change the course of their lives or basically stay (and perhaps stubbornly) the same. Knowing the types and depths of characters helps us read more effectively, knowing whom the writer directs our attention to the most.
