  • Passed back Letter to the Editor Essays and discussion
  • Reviewed the Quote Integration Handout (Hit and Run Quotes)
  • Short meeting with Somers to see your progress (I collected your "First Edition")
  • Passed out Into the Wild books and began (stopped in chapter one)
Homework
  • First draft of essay for peer edit is due on Friday
  • You need to have read all the way through chapter 4 (be ready to start ch. 5) by Thursday

Today in Class ...
  • We read Dave Barry's "How to Argue," watched a clip from "Thank You for Smoking"
  • Passed out information on "Logical Fallacies"
  • Passed in Annotated Bibliographies (because of the power outages last night, I gave everyone the chance to turn in their bibliographies tomorrow, instead.
  • I handed back the working thesis statements
  • Handout on "Writing you Introduction"
Homework ...
  • Because people got behind on the Annotated Bibliography, I'm not requiring that you have the introduction finished for tomorrow.  Instead, I will go over the handout on Intro tomorrow in class and give you time in class to work on your intro and overall paper.
  • If you do complete your intro tonight, hand it in tomorrow so I can get it back to you sooner.

  • Practice with Passive vs. Active Voice
  • Passed back Proposals for Research paper
  • Discussed working thesis statements, looked at samples, evaluated, and re-wrote if needed
  • Sample Annotated Bibliography
Homework
  • Complete your annotated bibliography.  Due tomorrow.  Must be typed and you must include hard copy of all research included in your bibliography.  If you watch a video, either find a transcript or take notes.  Here is a sample bibliography.
