Welcome to Mrs. Somers' English class pages. I'm already excited to meet all of you, and I'm looking forward to partnering with you in your success. For you seniors, the year will fly by more quickly than you can imagine. In a blink it will be Saturday, May 30, and I will have the pleasure of watching you walk past me, proud and excited in your black graduation robes. 
But between now and then, my job is to provide all the literacy tools and guidance to make sure you will be ready for what's next, be it college or career, and your job is to be willing to think, learn, and challenge yourself individually. And hopefully, we will also be able to have some fun and get to know each other in the process.


About Mrs. Somers ...  
  • This is my 29th year teaching English at Del Oro.
  • I grew up in San Diego - and still miss the beaches.
  • I married my high school sweetheart (and best friend) at 19, and we just celebrated our 42nd anniversary.
  • My husband is a forester and works for U.C. Berkeley at their research forest.
  • Our three kids were all D.O. grads
  • We have 7 little grandchildren. Being their Grandma is a pretty awesome gig.   
  • We have an Irish setter named Rose and a black cat named Olive.
  • I love hiking, literature, music, movies, and most of all, family.
  • I am a freshman class adviser
  • I am the English Department Chair, and I love working with my amazing colleagues.
