Welcome to Accelerated English! My name is Mrs. Smith, and I am looking forward to meeting you and working with you this year. This page will get you started on our Accelerated class (also known as English 10X). Hopefully you have received my introduction letter.

Directions
In order to confirm your enrollment in Accelerated English 10, complete the following three steps NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 20th:
  1. Read all about the English 10X Summer reading assignment (below).

  3. Come see me in room 102 if you need to borrow a copy of the summer reading book(s).
About the Summer Reading Assignment

Your Summer reading includes the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel. It is a short but powerful witness of the atrocities that took place during the Holocaust of World War II. We will also read the novel The Chosen by Chaim Potok, the story of two teenagers growing up with the pressure of cultural and family expectations.

Summer Reading Assignment Requirements

  1. Get some background by reading the first three sections (pages 9-11) of the introduction material for both Night and The Chosen from the Glencoe Literature Library Study Guides.
  2. Read both books.
