English 11 Essential Skill Assignments



1. City on a Hill short essay: you will respond to John Wintrhop's sermon and declaration that we are the "best nation" as conceived by     the settlers when they first landed.


2. Rhetorical Elements Test: this test will ask you to identify literary devices and elements of fiction in the context of one of America's         first Thought-Eras


3. SBAC practice test: All Juniors are being prepared for the smarter balance test that they will take in the Spring. This test is a multi-        faceted computer based test assessing skills learned up to Junior year of High School. 


4. The Great Gatsby ESA: this is a written response concerning the themes and central ideas behind our first class novel.


5. Junior Research Paper: directions are listed here. Further details will be provided in the course of the next few days.
